How do you keep active?

Looking after my ever growing family (2 girls under five, a dog and cat.. oh and the wife), road/trail running, Basketball, fishing and diving.

What events have you participated in?

Kerikeri Half Marathon, Auckland Half Marathon Series (all 5 events), Tarawera Ultra 50km (twice), Auckland Half Marathon, Tough Mudder, Taupo Ultra (pacer).

Are you training for anything right now?

I haven't committed to anything yet but maybe Tarawera Ultra, 50km again in 2022.

How long have you been working in events?

I started working in events in 2014 straight out of Northtech where I studied Sport and Recreation. It has been an amazing journey where I have met cool people and witnessed some awesome achievements.

What does your role involve?

Well, I think like all event roles they are so diverse and involve a little bit of everything. My roles include but are not limited to; overseeing the day to day operations, setting budgets, marketing, H&S, setting the event calendar, market research, assist with funding applications and so on. There are always challenges which keeps everyday interesting.

Why events?

For me it's all about seeing you accomplish your goals, it is priceless. When you cross that finish line and I get to see the look of amazement on peoples faces, where they realise they can do it. They finished!

How do you keep active?

I love playing hockey and getting outdoors with my kids, I enjoy most team sports, HIIT classes, and getting out for the odd run through the bush is always a goodie 😊

What events have you participated in?

Auckland Half Marathon 2018, Tough Mudder 2017 & 2018, Omaha Half Marathon & 10km 2017, and hopefully add a few more to the bucket list in 2022.

Are you training for anything right now?

Yes……..SUMMER 😊

How long have you been working in events?

5 years

What does your role involve?

My role involves anything to do with the start-finish area, entertainment, vendors, prizegiving’s etc.

I am involved with the promotion in schools and trying to get more kids to participate in our events.

Part of my role is also the design and ordering of things like merchandise, medals, bib numbers, and awards.

I also have fun doing the nitty-gritty with creating events and entry pages in the back end of the registration system.

Why events?

Events is something I am very passionate about and always found interesting, there are always new and innovative ideas on how to run events and how to make current events better.

The most rewarding thing about working in events is seeing people take on challenges and completing goals.

I love working in a team environment and working with new groups and meeting new people

How long have you been working in events?

I’m still considered a rookie and I started working in events in January 2021

What does your role involve?

As an on-course events coordinator my role includes organising anything between the start and finish areas to help make the event as safe as possible for our participants and the public, this includes but not limited to, booking land and spaces for events, liaising with traffic management companies and councils, and recruiting and managing the awesome volunteers that help encourage and direct our participants on event day.

Why events?

As I had participated in events and thoroughly enjoyed it, I took the role to have the opportunity to help facilitate something to enable others to set goals and become active and ultimately get amongst it and enjoy the atmosphere that the events provide.

Walking/hiking the trails (fav tracks would be out Smugglers and Whananaki)

Taking my dogs for a hikoi around the farm

Gym and group fitness/Boxfit classes

Hatea Loop Challenge

Queenstown Half Marathon 2018 (first 1/2 marathon)
Tarawera Half Marathon 2020

Are you training for anything right now?

Nothing at this stage, however, I’d love to do the 21km Ring of Fire event in Ruapehu one day.

How long have you been working in events?

2 years (event admin)

What does your role involve?

I handle the day-to-day event enquiries such as phone calls, emails, withdrawals, refund processing, invoicing, changes to participant entries (if requested), website updating, bib number collection and bib number mail out, on event day administration, event day prize giving, few social media posts here and there.

Why events?

It’s exciting, it’s thrilling, it keeps me grounded, and I’ve learned to appreciate the hard mahi that goes into organising these kinds of events. The Whenua in which we are so fortunate to hold our events on blows my mind, and the people I’ve met and the stories they’ve shared about their own Hauora journey puts the biggest smile on my face. Also, months and months of planning and seeing everything come alive from start to finish is like cracking opening a Icey cold one, right after you've finished mowing the lawns on a hot day – its Goooood!
