The Whangarei Run/Walk Festival offers a competitive Half Marathon, an 8.5km course as well as a fun-run 4km event.

Each distance covers a different course around the beautiful Whangarei central area.

Start times

Parking


  • There is paid parking located at the Town Basin or free parking in the surrounding streets.




Drink stations and toilets


Half Marathon Drink Stations There will be drink stations on course approximately every 3kms with water. R-Line will also be available at selected drink stations. Toilets There will be toilets at the start/finish areas and on course. Approx. every 5km 8.5km Drink Stations There are four water fountains situated around the loop for you to use including a drink station offering R-Line electrolyte at approx. Toilets There will be toilets at the start/finish areas and approx—2km and 6km into the course. 4km Drink Stations There are four water fountains situated around the loop for you to use. Toilets There will be toilets at the start/finish areas and approx—2km into the course.




Event timing


  • All three distances are electronically timed.




Gear drop off


There will be an option available for participants to store gear at the start/finish area while out on course. Gear can be left at the registration tent which is located at the Town Basin Canopy Bridge. All gear must be clearly labelled with your event number. You will need to present your event number to collect your gear. While all reasonable care is taken of gear, Sport Northland is not responsible for any lost or damaged items. Please do not leave valuables.




Race number collection


Due to the uncertainty on whether or not the event was going ahead, we held off ordering your bibs as any sensible event organiser would do given the current climate. Bibs; especially ones with timing strips attached to them are worth quite a bit.

Bib numbers will not be posted therefore they will need to be picked up from the below locations:

When & Where:

  • Northland Sports House, Sport Northland, 97 Western Hills Drive, Whangarei.
  • Thursday, 24th of September 2020 @ 8.00 am - 5.30 pm
  • Saturday, 26th of September 2020 @ 9.00 am - 12.00 pm

Alternatively, you can collect your bib number the morning of the event from the canopy bridge (start/finish area)

  • Sunday, 27th of September 2020 @ 6:30am - 7:30am

We advise not leaving your race number until the last minute. Your bib number is supplied with pins; please attach this high on the front of your t-shirt or singlet.

Bib numbers will have different strip colours; these strip colours define the category entered (Half Marathon, 8.5km and 4km Run/Walk).




St John


  • St John will be positioned at the start/finish area.
  • Please inform a marshal if you or someone else requires assistance on the course.
  • A tail marshal will follow the event.




Wheeled movements


  • Due to Health and Safety planning and the nature of the course the half marathon prohibits wheeled movements (e.g. baby buggies, rollerblades or skateboards) are not permitted..
  • Prams are permitted on the 4km and 9km loop

PaknSave leaderboard


  • The first five Half Marathon men and women finishers will earn points towards their total score on the Pak’nSave Leader board.




Prizegiving


  • Place getters are acknowledged at the finish area at approximately 10:30 am
  • There will be a spot prize tent at the finish area. All participants can go to the spot prize tent to try their luck and see if they have won a spot prize. Check to see if your number is showing on the spot prize board, if it is then you are a winner.
  • Entrants for all events are eligible for spot prizes.

Cancellations


In the unlikely event of cancellation, a notice will be given on Northland’s More FM 91.6 and posted on the home page at https://www.facebook.com/sportnorthlandevents. Where possible, attempts will be made to email all participants who have supplied an email address with their entry. While we endeavour to decide to cancel an event as early as possible, the nature of such events can occur quickly and without warning.




Health and Safety information


  • The event is held on public roads. Always treat all roads as open and expect oncoming and overtaking traffic.
  • Please obey all traffic laws and regulations.
  • Take extreme care when approaching driveways and side roads – expect vehicles.
  • Where there is a lane coned for participants, you are always required to remain within the cones
  • Marshals will be wearing high-visibility vests and are there for your safety. Always follow their instructions and those of the event organisers.
  • There will be a lead cyclist preceding the first participant and a tail marshal following the last participant. If assistance is required, please stop and wait for the tail marshal or notify the nearest marshal.
  • The Half Marathon course includes 2.5km on the Waimahanga Track. This is on loose metal and is narrow in places with exposed tree roots under foot - take extreme care.
  • No animals (except guide dogs) are permitted to accompany participants during the event.
  • Footpaths and footbridges are to be used where available.
  • Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • For your safety the use of iPods/MP3 players is discouraged. Should you choose to use an iPod/MP3 player during the event, please have the volume at a level that ensures you are aware of your surroundings and other participants




Virtual, Refund or Credit


If you wish to opt for options 2, 3, or 4, please let us know by Thursday 24th, September 2020.

Option 2 - Can't make it but still want to be involved? Do the event virtually anytime from Sunday, September 20 6:00 am up until Sunday, September 27 6:00 pm.

You get everything (including medal and spot prize draw) but the event day experience. If you are running Rotorua or another event you can use your time for this too!

You will receive a 20% discount voucher code that you can use to enter another Sport Northland Event before July 31, 2021.

Minimum numbers will need to be reached for this option to be feasible.

Option 3 - Credit to another Sport Northland Event before July 31, 2021.

Option 4 - 100% Refund




Series Pass Refunds


The Series Pass for 2020 launched with cheaper entry rates in the hope it would encourage participants to purchase both and enjoy the experience of 2 great northland half marathons. The terms of our refund policy are clearly defined below. Your acceptance of these terms are within the event waiver you acknowledged when registering: Refunds Please note the Kerikeri and Whangarei in this instance is of the same dollar value, e.g. if you paid $120.00 for your series pass each event would be worth $60.00. Each event has its refund structure consisting of the following: 75% refunds, 50% refunds, and 25% refunds. After a specified date there will be no refunds. Your refunds based on each event refund percentage structure which is under the events FAQ refunds section You must have a genuine medical reason for requesting a refund, and we may – at our option ask you to provide proof of this. For administrative errors on your part or change of mind, the current refund percentage applies. Please refer to each to the events FAQ's under "Refunds". In most cases, the refund will be credited directly to the card used to make the original payment. Refunds will be made within 48 hours of acceptance of your request. It may take longer for your card company to credit your account, this is out of our hands. In a situation where you experience an unexpected illness or injury, a medical certificate must be presented. The medical certificate will need to be sent through to info@sportnorth.co.nz with a brief explanation. Once we have received the medical certificate, Sport Northland events will refund XX% of the registration fee.
