ABOUT

The Chilltech Beach 2 Basin is on Sunday 15 March 2020. Started by Athletics Whangarei in 1978 with a couple of hundred competitors, the Beach 2 Basin has grown into a popular event attracting over 2000 runners/walkers each year.

AT CHILLTECH, WE LOVE GETTING BEHIND OUR LOCAL NORTHLAND COMMUNITY.

Our largest event that we support each year is The Chilltech Beach 2 Basin, an annual event run in March. This is a fun run/walk run by Sport Northland and is always a fabulous event with plenty of community invovlent and spot prizes including a Daikin Heat Pump! We also support:

PRICING STRUCTURE

 

Event Information

 

Please read the information below to help ensure that you have an enjoyable event.

 

 

EVENT SAFETY

  • The event is held on public roads. Always treat all roads as open at all times and expect oncoming and overtaking traffic .

  • Please obey all traffic laws and regulations.

  • Take extreme care when approaching driveways and side roads – expect vehicles.

  • Where there is a lane coned for participants, you are always required to remain within the cones  

  • Marshals will be wearing high-visibility vests and are there for your safety. Always follow their instructions and those of the event organisers .

  • There will be a lead bike preceding the first participant (for the on-road section of the course) and a tail marshal following the last participant. If assistance is required, please stop and wait for the tail marshal or notify the nearest marshal.

  • No animals (except guide dogs) are permitted to accompany participants during the event.

  • Footpaths and footbridges are to be used where available.

  • The 10km course includes 2.5km on the Waimahanga Track. Hazards include loose metal, exposed tree roots, rocks and uneven surfaces. The track is narrow in places. Please take extreme care when passing.

  • Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

 

PRAM WALK/RUN

  • For the health & safety of your child and other participants there are restrictions on this event which must be adhered to, marshals will be in place to ensure the following:

  • Due to uneven terrain on the Waimahanga Track and other parts of the course, Sport Northland advises that appropriate prams/buggies should be used.

  • Pram walkers must remain in single file (to allow other participants to pass safely).

  • Prams/buggies can only be carried on the last Bus (storage compartment) to the Start area.

  • Please make sure you are on the bus with your Pram/buggy.

 

 

FIRST AID

  • St John will be positioned at the start/finish area.

  • Please inform a marshal if you or someone else requires assistance on the course. A tail marshal will follow the event.

 

 

WHEELED CONVEYENCES

  • Due to Health and Safety planning and the nature of the course, wheeled conveyances (e.g. rollerblades or skateboards) are not permitted in this event.

 

 

START AREAS

  • 6.8km start near the Onerahi Tavern

  • 10km start near the Onerahi Yacht Club (this course incorporates the Waimahanga track)

 

 

START TIMES

  • To increase safety on the course, start times will be staggered in order of category entered.

  • 6.8km participants will start from 8.00am

  • 10km participants will start from 8.45am

  • Prior to the start, you will be marshaled into the start chute- please listen carefully to officials for instructions.

 

 

EVENT NUMBERS

  • If you entered prior to standard entries and opted for postage, then your race number will be posted out. If you opted to collect your race number see below;

  • Pickup location – Sport Northland - 93 Western Hills Drive, Kensington.

  • Pickup 12 March 2020 – 8.00am - 5.30pm

  • All participants who enter after the cut-off for postage (approx. 21 days out) will need to collect their race number as per above.

  • If you missed bib collection and entered after 12 March you can collect your bib number from the start on race day.

  • Your event number has been supplied with pins; please attach this high on the front of your t-shirt or singlet.

  • Event numbers will have different strip colours; these strip colours define the category entered (6.8km or 10km).

 

EVENT DAY PARKING

  • Car parking for participants catching buses to the start areas will be available at the Town Basin. We recommend you use the free bus service as there is no parking available at the start areas.

  • Please note that due to the new developments at the 6.8km start area, there is NO parking available and we recommend that all participants catch the bus to the start.

 

BUSES

  • Buses to both start areas will leave from Lower Dent Street, near the roundabout.

  • 6.8km - 6:45am - 7.30am

  • 10.km - 7:15am - 8:10am

  • NO buses will be returning to the start areas after prize giving.

 

DRINK STATIONS

  • Drink stations will be positioned at the end of the Waimahanga Track, Kissing Point and the finish area.

 

TOILETS

  • Toilets will be available at the start area, Kissing Point and finish area. Please approach an official at the Onerahi Tavern or Kissing Point if you require the use of an easy access toilet.

  • There are two public toilet blocks at the Town Basin available for you to use prior to catching the bus. These are located- Near the Playground and behind Mokaba Cafe.

 

IPODS/ MP3 PLAYERS

  • For your safety the use of iPods/MP3 players is discouraged. Should you choose to use an iPod/MP3 player during the event, please have the volume at a level that ensures you are aware of your surroundings and other participants.

 

FANCY DRESS

  • Dress up theme this year is “C”. Get your minds working and dress up in something that reflects something beginning with the letter “C”

  • Adults will win a $500 Quay Voucher from Chilltech

  • Child winner will win a double pass to Flipout Whangarei, a double pass to Heads Up Adventure Park and a bag packed full of goodies.

 

Win a Daikin Heatpump from Chilltech

  • The main prize is to supply & install a Daikin heat pump with the following specs:

  • Daikin FTXM35UVMZ/RXM35UVMZ “Cora” hi wall air conditioning system.

  • This system has a nominal rated cooling capacity of 3.5 kW & a nominal rated heating capacity of 4.0 kW.

 

FINISH TIMES

  • This event is not timed; therefore, no times will be recorded.

 

Pak’nSave LEADER BOARD

  • The first five men and women finishers from the 10km run will be allocated points which will go towards their series total on the Sport Northland Run/Walk Series Leader Board.

  • To be eligible for points towards the Leader Board you will need to enter the 10km run. You must start at the 10km start with the runners.

PHOTOS

 

PRIZE GIVING

  • Prize giving will be held at approx. 11:00am at the Town Basin. Participants must be present at prize giving and show their event number to claim their prize.

CANCELLATION

  • In the unlikely event of cancellation, a notice will be given on Northland’s More FM 91.6 and posted on the home page at https://www.sportnorthlandevents.co.nz/.

  • Where possible, attempts will be made to email all participants who have supplied an email address with their entry.

  • While we will endeavour to decide to cancel an event as early as possible, due to the nature of such events situations can occur quickly and without warning close to the start of an event.
